Since 1983, William McLeod McIntosh has served as mayor. A Moultrie native, Bill graduated from Moultrie High School, Oxford College of Emory University, Emory University, and the University of Georgia School of Law. He was a lieutenant in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. Bill has practiced law at Fallin and McIntosh, PC since 1976. For more than 20 years, he has been Juvenile Court judge in Colquitt County.
Bill is immersed in the life of Moultrie and Colquitt County. He is involved in and supports his community through United Way of Colquitt County, Colquitt County Arts Center, Boys and Girls Club of Moultrie, NAACP Colquitt County Chapter, Moultrie YMCA, Colquitt County Schools and sports, Colquitt Regional Medical Center, Moultrie-Colquitt County Library, Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce, Colquitt County Food Bank, and countless other organizations. Bill is a past president of Kiwanis Club of Moultrie and the Georgia Municipal Association, the organization of elected Georgia city officials where he has served on the executive board since the 1980’s. He has held leadership positions at First United Methodist Church where he is actively involved. Bill enjoys reading, fishing, and gardening.
His wife of 41 years is Katrina Cheek McIntosh, a retired teacher and community volunteer. His son, William McLeod McIntosh, Jr., a graduate of Colquitt County High School, the University of Georgia, and the University of Mississippi School of Law, is a public defender in Athens, Georgia. Cathryn McIntosh Houchins, also a Colquitt County High School and University of Georgia graduate, is married to Mississippi native Palmer Houchins. Cathryn is a marketing manager at TBS+TNT-Turner Broadcasting System in Atlanta, Georgia.
Moultrie is growing! Seeing young citizens return to this community to work and play is very exciting! Having retirees come home to Moultrie is enriching. Moultrians enjoy a unique and exceptional quality of life! The city’s employees and services are second to none. Bill McIntosh is indeed honored to serve as mayor of Moultrie, Georgia.
Moultrie’s first mayor was elected in 1893. Since then, we have had a total of 23 mayors. They had many occupations, including doctor, judge, attorney, and one even ran a candy brokerage!
